Holy smoker,
I’ve been listening to a lot of CMAT recently, during all sorts of hours. Her music has been plastered across my mind and I find myself being caught by the weight of her words hidden underneath the catchy country tunes.
Her new album, Euro-Country, came out this last week or so, and on it, there’s a song called Coronation Street. I’ve picked out this line from the Genius description:
“I wrote bits of this when I was 23. Leaving something to sit and marinate in one form for seven years is something I like doing, so it’s like I’m in collaboration with a former version of myself.”
This subject of artistic goals clashing with the everyday seems to keep coming up – We recently watched an episode of Bob’s Burgers in which Bob has lofty artistic goals that he can only achieve by burning the midnight oil – and his relationship with his family immediately suffers. It’s raw and very poetic in a way only slice of life animation can be.
It can be really tempting to throw away the routine to hopefully get closer to where you’d prefer to be in life, but the thing I’ve came to learn over the last few years, is that if you’ve got the right support behind you, the time used spent on your daily routine isn’t time wasted.

From Bob to Blob,
As most of you know, it’s took me a long time to finish The Last Court Jester, almost 6 years, as I started him in 2019.
He’s done now – rigged and ready for people to animate, which I’m very glad to say was an enjoyable process. I’d like to do more rigging in the future, but I’m currently focusing on making Notch content so I can get out and about, helping people with their tours.
On a much lighter subject (It won’t all be philosophical pondering!)
In August, Rosie and I saw many a giraffe this month, as we went to the local zoo, and also went to see Steam Powered Giraffe at AVX Lincoln this year! I’ve been a fan of theirs since their very early albums – but this was the first time we got to go and see them in person. We even got front row tickets and I got them to sign an old, ratty CD of one of their earlier albums!
